Located along Embassy Row in the heart of the intellectual and cultural resources of Washington, D.C., SAIS evinces a strong sense of community in an atmosphere of urban professionalism. SAIS is within walking distance of federal offices, international organizations, embassies, research institutions, multinational corporations, shops and restaurants.

ESL at The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) prepares international professionals and students to communicate effectively in academic and business environments. To complement formal daily morning language instruction, students attend class trips to meet with American policymakers, take part in weekly American studies seminars and visit cultural and political points of interest in Washington, D.C. Students also become proficient in using various multimedia materials and interactive software programs that are integral to the English language curriculum and todays world of global communications. Former participants have included diplomats, journalists, attorneys, executives and students from around the world.

However, housing options are available in Washington, D.C. through area universities and international student housing. Other housing possibilities include rooming in...

Due to the urban setting of our campus, SAIS has no residential facilities. Summer program participants are responsible for finding their own living accommodations in the Washington, D.C., area. However, housing options are available in Washington, D.C. through area universities and international student housing. Other housing possibilities include rooming in a group house or subletting an apartment for the summer months. Please indicate on your application if you would like more information on any of the suggestions listed above.
