English Communication Series ECS)

Designed to improve fundamental English language skills while learning more about intercultural, scholarly, and workplace communication. To transition from this program to the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, students must pass the ECS Exit Exam, which is offered during the last week of each term.

Initial placement in ECS is determined by the ELP Placement Exam scores or original scores from other placement tests recognized by National University

Four-week term; offered every month

3-day program Cost: $500 per course for 3-day program (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) Hours: 72 hours per month/course

5-day program Cost: $750 per course for 5-day program (Monday through Friday) Hours: 90 hours per month/course

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

This intensive and rigorous program is designed for international high school graduates, university students, or professionals who plan to attend National University, a university in an English-speaking country, or other college or university in the United States and/or want to improve their academic English skills for professional career enhancement or advancement. Academic English levels consist of eight (8) core courses increasing in difficulty and complexity from academic English language and academic skill development to advanced academic English proficiency and advanced academic performance expectations. Students can complete the university’s language proficiency requirement by successfully completing the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program.

Fulfills only the National University proficiency requirement upon successful completion of the program Available for individuals (integrated into existing program) Available for cohorts (integrated into current program or customizable, independent program)

English for Specific Purposes (ESP)

The program is designed to strengthen scholarly skills in a discipline-oriented context (terminology, concepts, themes, topics), increase confidence in subject-specific areas (the student's selected field of study), expand discipline-specific skills (conceptualization, critical analysis, case studies), and provide discipline-based research opportunities. The student's field of study may be in health, business, accounting, engineering, computer science, communication, education, economics, finance, environmental science, hospitality, public relations, or other related fields.

For individual students: For graduate students who plan to continue their studies at National University For individual students to qualify for enrollment in this program, students must have met the National University English language proficiency requirements, or have graduated from the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. Indicate your field of study at the graduate level.

Four-week term offered every month
3-day program = $500 per term (Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday  classes)
