The English courses consist of six levels. Levels one and two are for beginners. Levels three and four are used to teach students at the intermediate level. The last two levels are for advanced students. The textbooks (for teaching the students) emphasize communicative student-centered learning. In each course all four language skills are taught (i.e., reading, listening, speaking, and writing) with grammar focus in each area. This provides a wealth of opportunities to the students to practice what they have learned. A brief deion of the specific activities in each of the language skills follows:Reading is practiced as the student follows the taped presentations, reads along with the teacher, does individual preparation for pair work, strives to understand the directions, and relates to and recognizes the concepts that are depicted in the illustrations.Listening is exercised through teacher presentations of conversations and readings, through use of the cassette tapes, by following instructions the teacher gives for the practice exercises, through the pair work activities, by watching videos, and through the spin-off activities.Speaking is rehearsed through repetitions of conversations, by imitating the taped segments, by doing the pair exercises, by responding to in-class invitations to communications such as the free response activities, and by answering the questions in the exercises. Emphasizes correct pronunciation and intonation. Writing is practiced from the beginning in the written exercises that are part of the carefully planned progression and interweaving of skills in the text. Students will also be asked to keep a logbook or personal journal that will record their responses and reactions to the class. At the conclusion of this program, the student will be fluent at the university level
