The University is in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, an urban area with a population of about two million. The Minnesota English Language Program has 30 years of experience providing language training, academic support, and cultural orientation to students who plan to study in the United States. Classes are also helpful for improving professional communication skills. We offer 15-week intensive English sessions at 4 levels beginning in September and January. We also offer a 7-week Intensive English Program in June.

Minnesota English Language Program

Description

The Minnesota English Language Program has almost 50 years of experience providing language training, academic support, and cultural orientation to students who plan to study in the United States. Classes are also helpful for improving professional communication skills. We offer 15-week intensive English sessions at 4 levels beginning in September and January. We also offer a 7-week Intensive English Program in June.

Student Services

The International Student and Scholar Services Office on campus offers personal advising to help students with educational, personal, health and cultural adjustment questions; an international student adviser also provides advising on visa questions.

Additional Services

The University of Minnesota offers computer labs with internet access and e-mail, language labs, a new sports center, and one of the largest library systems in the country. Advanced students may be eligible to take academic credit courses after their first semester. Tandem Plus Language Partners offers the opportunity for students studying English to be matched with U.S. conversation partners.

Other Programs

The Academic English Program offers classes for academic credit; these courses are designed to meet the needs of undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and University employees who want to upgrade their English to be more effective in their study, research or work. The Contract Learning Program offers programs that can be tailored to the needs of particular groups, businesses, and organizations, both overseas and locally.
