ELP is appropriate for students who are preparing for undergraduate study in the US, as well as for students who wish to improve their English for personal or professional reasons. AEP is designed for students who already have a bachelor’s degree and are preparing for a master’s or Ph.D. program.
All of ESL Services' current instructors have graduate degrees or their equivalent, speak at least one foreign language and have taught, traveled, or lived outside the US. Every instructor has experience working in International Education, with many boasting more than 20 years of experience.
Outside of class make friends through our weekly social events and conversation groups and explore the beautiful city of Austin. Austin is the capital of Texas, and is consistently ranked as one of the top ten cities in the US to live. It is currently the 11th largest city in the US, with a population of approximately 930,000 within the 600 square kilometer city limits. While having the amenities of a large North American city, Austin, especially the university area, retains the atmosphere of a much smaller town. The natural beauty of Austin has been preserved in 17,000 acres (68 sq. km) of green space and 220 parks, offering a wealth of settings for swimming, cycling, hiking, and other outdoor activities. Austin is also known as the “Live Music Capital of the World.” There are over 150 live music venues in and around Austin, featuring every type of music imaginable.
ELP is for students who want to expand their English for communication, study, business, or pleasure. ELP students include undergraduates, visiting scholars, business people, and family members of UT faculty and students. ELP students can choose intensive or part-time study, depending on their visa status. ELP offers 7 levels of instruction, from beginning to advanced.
AEP is for students who already hold at least a bachelor's degree and are planning to enter a master's or Ph.D. program. AEP offers 4 levels of instruction, from low intermediate to advanced. Students refine their English skills and prepare for graduate study by practicing a variety of academic tasks, including: reading authentic materials, writing documented research papers, giving presentation, leading discussions, understanding lectures, and attending colloquia.
We offer 6-week preparation classes for TOEFL (iBT), IELTS, and GRE. These courses may be taken along with our intensive programs, or may be taken by themselves, depending on visa status. Please note that we cannot issue immigration documents for test preparation study only.
