Student Services

The mission of the Intensive English Program is to prepare international students for studies in colleges and universities in the USA. In our intensive classes students learn to do college-level reading assignments, write appropriate papers and exams, take good clear notes at lectures, take objective tests that are timed, and establish productive relations with fellow students and professors by learning about U.S. culture.

Additional Services

The ELI provides two scholarships for returning students. Highly competitive, the scholarships are decided by a committee of teachers and administrators. Students are welcome to submit their writing to Student Voices, an ELI publication. Students can compete for prizes with their fiction, non-fiction, poetry, academic essays, etc.

Other Programs

The ELI offers an array of activities. It is an integral part of the program and focuses on providing opportunities for oral practice. The Cultural Immersion Program comprises five programs (English Interaction, Daily Sports, Weekend Trips, Volunteering in the Community, and Conversation Partners), and is described in detail on our Web page. Integrated Curriculum. Reading and writing classes are totally integrated. Listening and speaking skills classes are divided into formal and informal instruction.
