LOUISIANA COLLEGE, A QUALITY FOUR-YEAR UNIVERSITY
Louisiana College, a four-year university, was founded in 1906 and is known for its academic quality and excellence in education. As a private Christian college of liberal arts and sciences it serves more than 1,200 students each year. Louisiana College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has been recognized for the past several years by U.S. News and World Report's "America's Best Colleges."
THE ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) PROGRAM:
Louisiana College's ESL program offers classes to help non-native speakers of English improve their language skills. Classes address both spoken and written English language skills.
**ESL Faculty**
The ESL instructors have advanced degrees in Linguistics and English. They have experience working with many different language backgrounds, and love teaching international students.
**ESL Classes**
The ESL classes address English grammar, pronunciation, listening, speaking, vocabulary, and academic writing as well as cross-cultural issues and other relevant topics. Qualified students may take selected regular LC classes along with their ESL classes. Students also receive academic credit for their ESL coursework.
**Computer Facilities**
The curriculum includes a multi-media language lab with Internet access on all computers and speech-recognition software.
**Individual Attention**
Our program is small, with individual attention for each student. The average class size has been less than ten students, and ESL class are limited to a maximum of 15 students. Students have the option to be paired with an American "conversation partner" and have many opportunities to visit classes and participate in community and campus activities. We encourage international students to live on campus and experience American culture by being integrated into our college community.
