Program Description

The main goal of the EC program is to help students communicate in both written and oral English. In order to do this, ICC believes that students should have a good foundation in the grammar and structure of the language and also gain knowledge of American culture.    Students take a placement test upon arrival and are placed in one of the eight levels offered from Beginning 1 to Advanced 2. Most students spend an average of two terms in one level. Students in this popular, intensive, eight-level program can develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills for general use.    The program is offered full-time (Monday to Friday) and part-time (Monday to Thursday) for four hours daily. Low-Intermediate to Advanced 2 classes are held in the morning: Beginning 1 to Low-Intermediate 1 students attend classes in the afternoon. From Monday to Thursday, classes focus on basic skills. On Fridays, the classes integrate all the skills in theme-based classes in which students study aspects of American and Hawaiian culture and life.
