The University of Pennsylvania (Penn) is an Ivy League university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The English Language Programs at Penn is a top English language program with an accredited Intensive Program. All full-time instructors hold graduate degrees in English as a Second Language or Applied Linguistics and have extensive teaching experience. ELP offers courses in Academic, Business, and General English, and has well-equipped university classrooms and small class sizes. ELP organizes social and cultural opportunities and provides strong student support services. ELP allows students to gain exposure to the U.S. university system while being immersed in the language and culture of the U.S.
The Intensive Program (IP) assists students in improving their English language proficiency to achieve academic, professional, and personal goals. The IP offers over 40 courses across 8 levels. A variety of social and cultural services are offered to students and include planned social activities, culture hours, and field trips. A Business Intensive Program is also available.
University Connection (UniConn) successfully prepares students for the challenges of the university application and admissions process. Students meet one-on-one with university admissions specialists, participate in workshops on topics related to the university application process, and are oriented to the academic expectations and culture of US universities. UniConn also assists students in improving their language proficiency and academic skills to ensure success in their degree program.
The Institute for Academic Studies provides a foundation for university-level English. Students receive an introduction to academic subjects in English and experience life and culture at a U.S. university. Guest lectures from Penn professors offer students a unique university experience.
The Institute for Business Communication assists students in improving their business knowledge and communication. By using workplace simulations based on business case studies, students enhance their professional skills. Guest lectures from Penn professors offer students a unique university experience.
The International Business Communication for Professionals (IBCP) program helps working professionals improve the effectiveness and confidence with which they communicate in professional situations in English. IBCP integrates targeted skills into simulations based on current international business cases. The program is offered at an intermediate and advanced level.
The International House ("I-House") offers private single rooms (2.73m x 3.64m) grouped in suites of ten rooms. Suites have a common lounge, which is the center of many social activities, and a large shared bathroom. In suites with kitchens, there is a shared dining and kitchen area with stove/oven, microwave oven, dishwasher and storage cabinets. All rooms have a refrigerator.
The International House is located four blocks from the ELP.
Homestay offers ELP students the opportunity to experience American culture in the safety and comfort of an American home. Students have a comfortable, fully furnished, private bedroom.
Homestays are located around 20-30 minute walk, or 10 minute bus ride, from ELP.
The Axis offers single and shared rooms. Accommodations include contemporary furnishing, private bathroom, flat screen TV, direct TV and wireless internet, microwave, refrigerator, and housekeeping services. The Axis provides an onsite fitness center, business center, laundry room, movie theater, game room, fully equipped kitchen, and cafe.
The Axis is located three blocks from the ELP.
With dorms at the center of campus, ELP students are able to experience a true US university living experience. Housing in the dormitories is limited and currently available for the July sessions only.
