Intensive Preparation for Studying at an American University

Program Description

Intensive, short, summer 2003 English program! DATES: Students may choose A. July 13 - August 2, 2003 (3 weeks) B. July 20 - August 4, 2003 (2 weeks) This program will focus on giving students the language and cultural skills they will need to adapt quickly and perform successfully when they come back to the U.S. to study for a longer period at ANY American university, as undergraduates or as graduate students. Every class and activity in this program relates and applies to this theme. Content-based, communicative, English classes will give students opportunities to practice their language skills for real communication with professors and students. Students will be shown how to use all the resources and services for assisting students on a typical American university campus. Students will gain the confidence they need to adapt quickly and successfully to academic and social life at any American university.

You will be housed in a double occupancy high-rise dormitory. There are four community bathrooms on the floor, shared by all of the students on your floor. (Females are housed on one floor, Males on another floor) There is a small kitchen and laundry facility downstairs in the basement. You cannot cook in your room. Linens and towels are provided. There will not be a telephone in your room, but there are many public, pay telephones in the dormitory and on campus. Rooms also have Internet access for laptops.

Despite its location in a metropolitan area of more than 1.5 million people, the campus includes rolling hills with forests, streams, and ponds, surrounding a pedestrian core of contemporary air-conditioned buildings that has the feel of a small, residential campus. Easily accessed by nearby interstate highways and an international airport, the campus is enhanced by University City, a planned community that has shopping centers, a research park, and a hospital, near campus.
