IF YOU WANT TO LEARN TO SPEAK SPANISH,
STUDY IT IN THE ENVIRONMENT WHERE ITS SPOKEN
The Fenix Language Institute offers intensive programs in two traditional Mexican settings
(((far removed from the beaten track of international tourism))):
the regional capital of Zacatecas, and the village of Chalchihuites,
both in northern Mexico.
5 Reasons to Study at Fenix Language Institute
1. Campuses in non-English speaking areas
2. Total cultural experience
3. Emphasis on excellence
4. Part of the Fenix family
5. Fun, friendly environment
Learn to use your own natural ability to discover a language and make it work for you
outside the classroom, using it in real situations in the home of your host family,
during extracurricular activities, and in the context of special courses on the culture
and history of Mexico as well as courses tailored to special professional and/or technical
needs.
If you truly want to learn Spanish, living with a Mexican family will be an important part of your experience at Fenix. We work with numerous families who have been receiving students in their homes for years. They provide meals, language practice, and first hand involvement in Mexican culture. More importantly, they accept you into their family, where you enjoy the friendship and warmth of a "second home". When your time in Mexico is over, you may find that the hardest part of your experience will be leaving your host family. Some of our families live in apartments downtown; others have homes in surrounding neighborhoods. Some are couples whose children have grown up and moved away; others span generations. All offer a comfortable middle class room. Whether you come alone or with a friend, we will introduce you to a Mexican family who will be happy to have you stay in their home. As different as they are from one another, all of our families offer one thing in common: unsurpassed Mexican hospitality.
location information:
So impressive is the arquitectural beauty of Zacatecas that the Mexican Institute of Anthropology and History declared the city several years ago to be a "colonial monument," part of the cultural patrimony of all Mexicans. The artistic and cultural life of Zacatecas is rich and lively, comparable to that of other cities of the world. One can find vanguard film, classical and popular music concerts, classical and folkloric ballet, poetry readings, literary conferences and competitions, presentations of opera with such stars as Placido Domingo and Pavarotti, modern dance clubs, and an assortment of local street entertainment. Also included are the typical music groups "estudiantinas" and "tamborazos", as well as traditional mariachis, all of which enliven the historic streets of friendly Zacatecas.
